A Reflection from Sufi artist Kamal Sabran:

“Death strips away our illusions—the illusion of permanence, of power, of ownership. It reminds us that all we truly have is this moment. And in this moment, we are given a choice: to sleepwalk through life, chasing shadows, or to live with full awareness, knowing that every breath is a gift.

The Sufi does not see death as a thief, but as a messenger. It whispers: Why are you attached to what is perishing? Why do you delay love? Why do you hoard what you cannot keep? To know that death is near is to live with urgency, with purpose, with love. It is to pour yourself into worship, into service, into beauty, because you know that soon, you will stand before the One who gave you life.”

    Hi Rev. Lori,

    This piece truly inspired me. Reading it, I found myself wishing I could sit down with President Donald Trump and members of his administration and simply read the Reflection from Sufi artist Kamal Sabran:
    “Death strips

    Perhaps it might awaken a moment of reflection about how power, privilege, and agency are meant to be used.

    Instead of being champions for justice, too often they have become instruments of fear.

    Instead of lifting people up, they are tearing communities apart.

    Instead of sharing the abundance entrusted to them, they choose to hoard it.

    And I find myself wondering… to what end? 😞

      In the South, we have a phrase that regularly comes to my mind when I consider the current administration….
      It is time for them to have a “Come to Jesus.”
      The Gospel and every other wisdom tradition have so much to teach these leaders.
