Blessing That Which Multiplies Mercy
When I am tempted, Oh God, to wonder how (how can this be),
when I find myself forgetting all that I actually do know,
I pray.
May the blessings of remembering the abuseβ¦the injuryβ¦the harm
multiply in me as love instead of hurt.
May the blessings of remaining once abandonment lays waste
multiply in me as fidelity and as faith.
May the blessings of traversing instability and shift
multiply in me as ease and as bend.
And may the blessings of my terror in a world hell-bent on pain
multiply in me as safe harbor and as strength.
~
When I am tempted, Oh God, to wonder why (why would this be),
when I find myself forgetting that I, too, have sinned this way,
I pray.
May the blessings of traumaβs childrenβ¦my avoidance and self-harmβ¦
multiply in me as forgiveness and as slack.
May the blessings of anger stifledβ¦my blocking love, deflecting joyβ¦
multiply in me as forebearance and as grace.
May the blessings of surviving what killed others many times
multiply in me as gratitude and hope.
And may the blessings of my coming by so much more than a βfair shareβ
multiply in me as generosity and spur.
~
When I am tempted, Oh God, to deny the ease Iβve seen,
when I find myself forgetting all the mercy I have known,
I pray.
Creator β thank you.
And may each new day be
just one ache more
toward Mercyβs boundless edge.
Amen+
